Here are some of our Frequently Asked Questions

How do you add flavor to your coffees?

For years our Heaven’s Blend has been our best selling coffee. It is a super smooth, medium roast, breakfast blend coffee that everyone tended to enjoy so…Jackie decided to use this Brazilian coffee as the base for all of our flavors. In 2011 Jackie traveled to Brazil and met with multiple farmers. She visited the farm where her coffee was currently coming from and toured many other farms in the Minas Gerais area of Brazil. In 2013 business had finally grown large enough that she could afford to purchase her very first full container of coffee- and the entire crop of the San Martin Estate.

Our flavored coffees are all sugar free, calorie free, and gluten free. We use a liquid extract that is alcohol based. The alcohol acts as a carrying agent to get the flavoring stuck to the bean and then the alcohol evaporates off leaving just the flavor behind. This extract is very potent and we only use a very tiny amount. Some of our flavors are all natural and others are artificially created but there is never any aspartame or “icky” chemicals used. The flavors are 100% USDA approved for food and consumption.

More info on flavors:
Propelyne Glycol is the alcohol carrying agent used in most of our flavored coffees. It is an organic compound and mostly evaporates after contact with the coffee beans. The info below was taken from Wikipedia.
Propylene glycol does not cause sensitization and it shows no evidence of being a carcinogen or of being genotoxic. Propylene glycol was classified by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration as “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) for use as a direct food additive, including frozen foods such as ice cream and frozen desserts. [Learn more]

How are your decaf coffees processed?

Our decafs are 100% Water Processed meaning that there is absolutely no chemicals used during the decaf process. The coffee beans are soaked in a water bath and through osmosis, the caffeine leaches out and into the water. The water is then cycled through a carbon filter which removes the caffeine molecules and the process is repeated until 99.7% of the caffeine has been removed.

Most decaf coffees use Methane Chloride to remove the caffeine. (A chemical that is toxic and found in femeldehyde) But NOT at Jackie’s Java- our decaf coffees are 100% water processed and chemical free
